Jesse Ruiz
Events Manager/Running Coach
I began my formal education at Texas State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science while working with the Sports Club teams there. After training the Men’s and Women’s Club Rugby teams, along with the Women’s soccer club teams, I came to realize my passion for sports could be extended into the fitness realm and my journey began at Crossfit San Marcos in 2010.
Being a life-long fitness enthusiast I was quickly drawn to the endurance aspect of the sport and despite making vast improvements, I realized how restricted certain parts of my body were and stumbled onto Kelly Starrett’s Supple Leopard book and my love affair with all aspects of mobility/flexibility training began. I have spent the past 10 years studying, investigating, and experimenting with different concepts on how to decrease pain in the body while increasing strength through range of motion. Having experienced 2 major sports injuries myself (paralyzation from the neck down and a torn ACL/medial meniscus), the importance of quality and pain-free movement has become a part of my fitness DNA.
My certifications include: CrossFit Level 1 Trainer 2018, Primal7 Primary Movement SpecialisT, Level 1 Coaching Certification via Atomic Athlete, Intern at GRIT Strength and Conditioning, Neufit Rehab Practioner.
I’ve spent the last 10 years studying movement patterns and infusing that training into both mine and my client’s training. I’m also an avid trail and trail relay runner, as well as running numerous ½ marathons and road races throughout Texas. As a Kstar disciple and avid runner, I’ve spent the past 10 years studying, investigating, and experimenting with ways to decrease pain in the body, while increasing strength and endurance through a quality range of motion. I believe that this industry chose me and that journey began in middle school, where I suffered a pinched nerve, in my neck, while playing football and was temporarily paralyzed from the neck down. I believe that we possess the innate ability to maintain our bodies and to live, move, and breathe pain-free, all in a physical, mental, and spiritual state. While at Texas State, I was able to coach both collegiate club soccer and rugby players and quickly realized my passion for coaching others. In 2011, I discovered the sport of Crossfit, and my journey into the fitness and coaching industry began. I”m honored to be part of the EAAC community and am looking forward to sharing my passion of movement with everyone I encounter.
Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live in.
